Study abroad agent vs immigration officer.

The officer decides the visa, and does it for a foreign government. The agent helps a family choose, from an office in India. These are two different jobs, and three simple questions show you the line between them.

Two different worlds

Who does what.

You will sometimes see an agent called a "visa consultant", an "immigration consultant" or an "education consultant". The work is the same under every name. An agent guides, and never decides.

Immigration officer

A government employee of the destination country

The officer works at a visa office, a border or an immigration department. They read the application and decide it under that country's law, yes or no. That government employs them, trains them and sets their rules. You cannot hold this role from India.

Study abroad agent

An employee of a consultancy in India

The agent sits with the student and the parents. They understand the marks, the English score, the budget and the goal. Then they give 2 or 3 honest options, help choose the course and the institution, get the checklist completed and follow up. They do not decide anything.

The guide About 3 min

Three questions an agent asks every time.

Handing a question over is not weakness. It is how the job is done properly.

  1. Is this information? You are showing the family what the official page says. Yes, that is an agent's work.
  2. Is this clerical help? You are typing the student's own answers, or matching papers to a checklist. Yes, that is your work too.
  3. Is this advice? "Which permit should I take", "what do I write here", "how do I appeal a refusal". These go to a senior or a licensed professional.
Read more: What each role needs
  • To become an immigration officer. You usually need that country's citizenship or the right to live there, and you go through its government recruitment and training. This school is not a path to that job and gives no information about it.
  • To become a study abroad agent. Employers in Punjab ask for any graduate with good communication and 0 to 2 years of experience. What makes you good is asking the right questions, giving honest options, handling documents, following up, and knowing where to stop. Here is the full path.

That "where to stop" is the legal line. You can read it plainly in the scope line below.

The destination-by-destination table will appear hereEvery destination draws its own line between information, clerical help, advice and handing over. Week 12 teaches that table, and every lesson carries a "last verified" date. Until the table is here, the three questions are the rule.

Did you know

The line has its own week.

Week 12 covers refusals, re-application, other visa categories and compliance. A learner who promises a visa or a job in the final cannot get a Distinction.

Week 12scope

Scope. We train people to work as study abroad agents. This course does not give anyone the right to advise on the immigration law of any country. Where a licence is required, only a licensed professional may advise. This is general information from official pages we read in October 2026. It is not legal advice. The same line is printed on the certificate, and you can read the full statement.

OutcomesThe school is a training institute and does not guarantee a job. Angels Immigration picks some graduates from each batch to work with it, and the rest get help with placement. How it goes depends on the person. After each batch we publish its numbers here. You will see how many enrolled, how many finished, how many Angels hired and how many were still employed at 6 months. What a past batch did is no guarantee of what the next one will do.
