How to become a "visa consultant".

Inside a consultancy the real job is called study abroad agent. This is the person who helps a student and their parents reach the right course, the right country and a complete file.

First things first

What the job really is.

The phrase people search for makes it sound as if the work is getting visas. It is not. An immigration officer of the destination country decides the visa. A study abroad agent's work comes before that.

What people search

A person who "gets" visas

This is who the family imagines. Someone who has a shortcut for every country and can give a date for the result.

What the job is

Study abroad agent

The agent asks first, then gives 2 or 3 honest options with reasons. They build a complete file. Any question about the application itself goes to a senior or a licensed professional. The agent decides nothing.

Did you know

Not one advertisement asked for a certificate.

In October 2026 we read job advertisements for this role across the Tricity and Punjab. Most asked for three things, which were any graduate, clear Hindi or Punjabi with working English, and 0 to 2 years of experience. So you do not need training to get in. You need it to be good at the job and to move up quickly, instead of learning from your mistakes on real families.

The guide About 4 min

One meeting, in five steps.

  1. Enquiries. A family writes on WhatsApp or walks into the office.
  2. Discovery. You talk for 10 minutes about the academic record, the English score, the budget and the goal.
  3. Options. You give 2 or 3 honest options, with reasons.
  4. Follow-up. You follow up and make a CRM entry.
  5. The file. You complete it against a checklist and check it with the documentation team.

An agent who suggests before asking, or who makes promises, is found out quickly. Parents arrive having already met three other agents.

Five kinds of roles in an office

"Consultant" is one word, but the work in an office is divided. Each role suits a different kind of person.

  • Tele-caller. You handle the first conversation and the follow-up, and you turn an enquiry into an appointment. This suits people who are strong on follow-up.
  • Agent. You take walk-in meetings, ask the discovery questions, give options and an honest next step. This suits people who are strong face to face.
  • Admissions officer. You search for courses, fill application forms and handle offer letters. This suits accurate people who like detail.
  • Documentation executive. You run the checklists of academic and financial papers, and you assemble and check the file. This suits careful people who like process.
  • Front desk and student support. You give the first welcome, keep records and send reminders. This suits warm, organised people who are still building their knowledge.

The road ahead runs from trainee to agent, senior agent, team leader and branch head. You can read about it in the career ladder guide.

What to learn, in the order we teach it

Weeks 1 to 4 cover the industry, ethics, education systems, English tests and funding, with Test 1 in week 4. Weeks 5 to 8 cover discovery, profile assessment, guiding students on WhatsApp and Meet, walk-ins and objections, with Test 2 in week 8 in front of a practice family. Weeks 9 to 12 cover that term's four countries, applications and documentation, explaining refusals honestly, and compliance. Weeks 13 to 16 are the live office floor, with supervised WhatsApp conversations and walk-ins from 29 March 2027, and the final on 22 to 23 April 2027.

The full programme, the fee and the certificate are on the Programme page. Batch 1's real numbers appear on Outcomes in June 2027.

The rules

Four things we say plainly.

  • The legal lineWe train people to work as study abroad agents. This course does not give anyone the right to advise on the immigration law of any country. Where a licence is required, only a licensed professional may advise. The laws of Canada and New Zealand reach advice given from India. So an agent gives information, helps choose a course and a country, and hands any question about the application itself to a senior or a licensed professional. Read Study abroad agent vs immigration officer.
  • The certificateSchool of Immigration is a private training school. The certificate is the school's own Certificate of Completion. It is not a diploma, a degree, a travel agent licence or a licence to give immigration advice. It is not a government-recognised qualification in any country either.
  • Training, not a visa serviceThis school is not a visa service for the people who study here. We do not offer any visa, admission or "go abroad" service. We only train you to become a study abroad agent.
  • No phone callsWe do not make or take phone calls. Once your application is complete, you can ask your questions on WhatsApp at +91 85910 18586.
